How to spend a layover in Qatar

Pfft… Layovers, right? Layovers can last less than an hour or two, or extend over half a day! You may find yourself rushing to the next boarding gate, but you may end up wandering, wondering what to do and then not being able to rush through it.

Don’t just sit in a random chair and while you’re scrolling through your social media accounts, which everyone does to spend their time at the airport. If you are in Qatar, however, Hamad International Airport has a lot of fun activities to fill your time in addition to browsing the same old duty shops.

But alas, you are in another country! If your layover gives you enough time, get out of the airport and check your surroundings. Luckily, Qatar’s capital Doha and its attractive attractions are just minutes away from the airport. You can spend all your time there and immerse yourself in the local culture as much as possible. Other than that, layovers allow you to mark a foreign country on your bucket list, and this article will show you how to do just that.

Within Airport – Less than 5 hours layover time:

Although a short layover would not give you enough time to see Doha, you can still take full advantage of all that Hamad International Airport can offer! Practice a languid dip in the indoor swimming pool or get yourself a body and face massage. Capture photos of various art installations in the passenger compartment. With all these activities to be done at the airport, time will pass in an instant.

Activity nodes for Children: How do you avoid a cranky child? If you think that layovers are difficult, imagine how less comfortable the kids will be! They will be tired and nauseous or restless. In any case, one of the five designated activity nodes can be the trick because it comes complete with televisions, internet browsing, and family rooms to find personal space. Even if you don’t want to browse through the arcade of stores, there is still much to do inside the airport.

If you have more time on your hands, however, get out of the airport to check out!

Around Airport – More than 5 hours layover time:

Only three hours is enough to capture a glimpse of the landmarks of the Doha architecture, or at least a watery version. However, I recommend at least five hours to appreciate Qatar’s capital properly. This way, you will be able to peruse the attraction at a relaxed speed, and not worry about losing your flight. Just arm yourself with a map or guide book from a free store near the luggage claim area to start exploring!

Immerse in Souq Waqif’s raw local scene:

Qatar’s beautiful outdoor bazaar is at the top of our to-do list! For any traveler staying in Qatar for a short time, a trip to Souq Waqif is the best way to experience the country.
If you are in Qatar for those few hours during your layover, taking a trip to Souq will give you an insight into how local people live, work, and interact together.

Visit the Museum of Islamic Art:

If you are making a trip to Doha, then do not miss the Museum of Islamic Art. If you go inside, you will find one of the most beautiful art collections from the 7th to the 19th century, beautifully displayed and well described.
One can easily spend up to five hours admiring the collections!

Drive through Downtown Doha:

On the way back to Hamad International Airport, there is only one thing left to do before you can call it a day. If there is anything you should remember about your short stay in Qatar, then it should be a beautiful place in the city of Doha. Every building in Qatar has beautiful designs. From Doha Tower and Tornado Tower to Al Bidda and The Palm Towers, each building looks more impressive than the next. Some are twisted and swaying in a circular shape. Takedown the windows of your car and appreciate the beautiful scenery around you.

If you want to keep your journey enjoyable and comfortable, you can opt for car hire Doha Qatar. Renowned companies such as Al Muftah car rentals provide car rentals at reasonable prices for tourists.
